A novice DM could run 5e likewise and make a whole blundering mess but still make it fun if they're worth their salt as a DM. But the DMG gives you the information and assurances of what makes a 5e game a good 5e game. Hugin 2016.2.0 dmg. Yes, Glitterdust is very, very good, but against an invisible target it often does not help, unless you have a way to pinpoint its location. If you have, it's obviously better than See Invisible, but in general I prefer the latter for just being automatic. A Wizard spell on a spell scroll can be copied just as Spells in spellbooks can be copied. When a spell is copied from a spell scroll, the copier must succeed on an Intelligence (Arcana) check with a DC equal to 10 + the spell’s level. If the check succeeds, the spell is successfully copied. Whether the check succeeds or fails, the spell scroll is destroyed.
